Frank Roth Was Right About Illustration Majors

6.5” x 9.5” original mixed media painting on hot press watercolor paper.

In the early 90’s, when I was an undergrad student at SVA, I enrolled in Frank Roth’s painting studio. This is where I met my future husband (an aside I know, but romantic, right?). Frank would not work with the illustration majors. He said (literally), “Go and be someone else’s whore. I have no time for you.” I recently started taking some illustration classes of my own. It wasn’t until now that I totally understand Frank’s anger. Ah, aesthetics. Tricky business. So this depicts me away from the cool birds, awkwardly alone in the corner, waiting for an invitation. This will ship to you the utmost care and joy in knowing that you like me. You really, really like me.
